Saugus DUI Suspect Arrested After Hit-And-Run Crash

A Saugus man was arrested and charged with DUI Monday after he allegedly was involved in a hit-and-run car crash while driving under the influence, according to officials.

On Monday around 1:30 p.m., deputies were notified of a hit-and-run traffic collision that occurred on McBean Parkway at Decoro Drive, said Shirley Miller, a spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. Witnesses were able to provide a detailed description of the suspect’s vehicle to officials.

“A deputy driving on Avenue Scott spotted a vehicle heading into residential streets that matched the description, and conducted a traffic stop,” Miller said. “The driver didn’t pull over, instead he stopped in the middle of the road.”

Upon making contact with the driver, the deputy observed that the subject exhibited signs of possibly being under the influence, according to officials.

When the deputy asked the driver to step out of the car to perform field sobriety tests, the driver reportedly lost his balance while standing up and fell over, and later had to use the patrol car to push himself back up, Miller said.

Marcus Round, 35, from Saugus was arrested and charged with driving under the influence.

“Please, we implore you, don’t drink and drive,” Miller said.

Round was arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail where bail was set at $5,000, according to arrest records.

  1. A female DUI driver a few days ago got $100,000 as a bail requirement but this guy only gets $5,000???

    • Fred, if anyone is arrested for DUI and the bail is $100,000, then they are being charged as. Felony. A misdemeanor DUI has a beginning bail of $5000. There are additional factors that can increase that bail.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
