The Santa Clarita Valley Quilt Guild is scheduled to have its Exhibition of Quilting & Fabric Arts on June 8 and 9 at Hart Park, officials said Tuesday.

Organizers hope to display 50 to 80 pieces of fabric art, and are still receiving submissions, the guild said.

“We want to show the community that quilts don’t have to be perfect,” said Linda Buesching, vice president of the SCV Quilt Guild.

The event was inspired by Buesching’s friend, who was discouraged by how “perfect” quilts at quilting circles looked. But when she saw quilts with flaws, she was encouraged to try, Buesching said.

While quilts are expected to make up the majority of the exhibition, other fabric art is also set to be displayed. Needlepoint, cross-stitch and fiber art such as crochet have been submitted as well, organizers said.

“Anybody should come to our event,” Buesching said. “We want to let the community see that people still do these crafts, and they can do them, too.”

The exhibition is free, but there is a suggested donation of $5. Proceeds from the event are set to support the SCV Quilt Guild, according to their newsletter.

“It’s not your grandmother’s bed sheet anymore, but it doesn’t need to be perfect for it to be a family heirloom,” Buesching said. “It’s the love that goes into it.”

The Exhibition of Quilting & Fabric Arts is scheduled for June 8 and 9 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at William S. Hart Park, located at 24151 Newhall Avenue in Newhall.
