The SCV Water Board is expected to continue the discussion for the nomination of Dante Acosta Monday, following the tabling of the motion last month.

Acosta was nominated by Supervisor Kathryn Barger, who represents Santa Clarita as part of the Fifth District, for the seat which was vacated on Jan. 2.
The former assemblyman received the nomination for a place on the board to represent Los Angeles County Waterworks District No. 36, which includes Val Verde and parts of Castaic.
During the meeting on Dec. 18, the SCV Water Board considered merging the district into their agency, but needed approval from the county, according to Board President Bill Cooper.

The merger could be a cost-saving measure for the district, which serves 1,200 homes compared to SCV Water’s 72,000, according to Cooper.
“We all draw water from the same source,” said Cooper. “It would save the county just to merge into SCV Water.
A spokesperson for Barger said they are “staying with their nomination, and is going to see what the water board decides at the next meeting.”
Any potential merger would need approval from Los Angeles County officials.
The seat was previously represented by Dean Efstathiou who was nominated by former Supervisor Michael Antonovich, but his term expired on Jan. 1.
The SCV Water Board meeting is set for Jan. 7 at 6:30 p.m.
