Senior Hour – Stick To A Fitness Routine During The Holidays And Maintain Functional Mobility Through Exercise – November 2, 2022

On this episode of The Senior Hour, Dr. Gene Dorio and Dr. Thomas Polucki welcome in Jennifer and Cezanne from the Paseo Club as well as Adam Laraway from Focus Physical Therapy to discuss how seniors can stay in shape during the holidays through exercise, nutrition plans, and functional movements.

With the holiday season fast approaching, it’s easy to lose sight of your fitness goals. As the weather becomes colder, daylight savings comes into effect and days become shorter, motivation to hit the gym and eat healthy can often be derailed. Jennifer and Cezanne discuss how the motivation of group workout classes and the social aspect that the Paseo Club offers to its members can keep your workout goals on track and avoid those holiday love handles.

“It’s a sprint, you’re not expected to give up your Thanksgiving meal,” Jennifer said of the Paseo Club’s collaboration with Plate Therapy. “Its really just to keep you on track as you lead up to the holidays, between Halloween and then Thanksgiving, and before you know it, it’s Christmas, and low and behold the wheels have fallen off.”

Later in the show, Adam joins the studio to discuss the benefits of physical therapy and specifically functional movements such as bridges and hip thrusts as it pertains to hip health. He adds that it is particularly beneficial for seniors who are prone to sitting for longer period of times. Dr. Polucki adds that taking these preventative measures both in your exercise and nutrition are what adults and seniors should focus on rather than medications to mitigate them after the fact.

Listen to the entire show here as Dr. Polucki and Dr. Dorio sit down with Jennifer, Cezanne, and Adam to discuss how to tackle the holiday season with a workout and nutrition plan!
