Six Flags Magic Mountain Announces Removal Of Green Lantern Ride

Six Flags Magic Mountain officials recently announced that they will be removing the “Green Lantern: First Flight” roller coaster to make room for future rides.

“The Green Lantern: First Flight roller coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain is scheduled to be removed at a later, undetermined date to make room for future development,” said Sue Carpenter, spokesperson for the Valencia theme park.

Although it is still standing, the park has no plans to open the ride before it is removed, Carpenter added.

The vertical spinning roller coaster opened during the summer in 2011 as “an icon of courage, confidence and strength,” according to park officials.

Since then, the bright green track led thrill seekers on a wild ride as it weaved at 34 mph, about 98 feet in the air, leaving the flipping to physics.

The removal of Green Lantern is set to make way for a new ride that will debut later this year, West Coast Racers, according to Carpenter.

The new ride was unveiled in 2018, the newest reveal since Twisted Colossus in 2015.

West Coast Racers is set to put the amusement park’s coaster count at 20 — the most in the world.

“Six Flags Magic Mountain, the ‘Thrill Capital of the World,’ continues to have an unparalleled world-class roller coaster collection,” said Carpenter.

West Coast Customs, who rose to fame with the MTV television show “Pimp My Ride,” partnered with Six Flags to make the world’s first racing launch coaster.

The coaster cars were modeled after “The Rocket,” a one-of-a-kind car that Ryan Friedlinghaus, founder and CEO of West Coast Customs, built for the artist Will.I.Am.

The ride consists of a three-minute journey on a terrain-hugging track for head-to-head racing at speeds of up to 55 miles per hour.

In all, the race covers two complete laps and features four total inversions– including three zero-gravity rolls and one stall– 14 track crossovers and a “high-five” in which riders come so close they almost high-five the opposing car, according to officials.

West Coast Racers is slated to open in summer 2019 in a new urban-themed area near the wooden coaster Apocalypse and the Cyclone 500 Go Karts, which are set to undergo a re-theming.

  1. Finally! The Green Lantern ride was the most painful ride for a man to ride (for obvious reasons). As a season pass holder I look forward to its replacement as well as the new West Coast Racers ride this summer.
