A man allegedly driving under the influence with children in his vehicle was arrested Friday after crashing into a big rig in Castaic, sending all three kids to the hospital with major injuries, officials said.

Around 7 p.m., first responders received reports of a traffic collision involving an overturned vehicle on the southbound 5 Freeway, roughly two miles south of Templin Highway, according to officials.

“(A man) driving a 2001 Toyota hit a big rig and his Toyota overturned,” said Officer Josh Greengard, spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol Newhall Office.

Everyone in the Toyota sustained major injuries, including three children ranging from 2 to 10 years old, according to officials.

The driver, 38-year-old Diego Valencia, of Sylmar, was arrested and booked on charges of felony DUI causing injury, with bail set at $50,000, according to arrest records.
