Update: Toddler Rescued From Apartment Window After Being Left Home Alone

A toddler was rescued from an apartment building Wednesday, after a concerned resident feared she would fall out of a window, officials said.

UPDATE: The 28-year-old mother of the toddler who was left home alone at an Isabella Parkway apartment has been arrested on child endangerment charges.

Suspect Lucia Romero of Canyon Country is in custody, with bail set at $100,000. This incident remains an active investigation.

Around 2 p.m., first responders received a call for a child leaning up against a screen on the second floor of an apartment building on the 26700 block of Isabella Parkway, according to Vanessa Lozano, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

“There was a citizen that called and said a child in a second floor apartment was leaning on a screen and the window is open,” said Lt. Ignacio Somoano with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

When deputies arrived on scene, a deputy and a sergeant positioned themselves at the base of the window and tried communicating with the child to keep her safe, he said.

While deputies were communicating with the child, firefighters forced entry into the apartment to rescue her from the apartment.

An ambulance was requested, however, fire officials were not able to say if someone was transported.

“The child was home alone,” Somoano said. “Child services was notified of the situation.”

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
