Valencia High School, Rio Norte To Have Distance Learning Only Due To North Fire

Valencia High School, and Rio Norte Junior High School are set to only have distance learning Thursday as a result of the North Fire burning in Santa Clarita.

On Thursday, Valencia High School and Rio Norte, are not going to have in-person learning due to the North Fire, said Dave Caldwell, a spokesperson for the William S Hart Union High School District.

“No students will be on campus,” Caldwell said.

All students who attend Valencia and Rio Norte are to report to their online learning platforms, according to Hart District officials.

As of Wednesday evening, Hart District officials are still determining if they will allow sports to be played depending on the air quality, according to Caldwell.

The North Fire first broke out Wednesday around 1:30 p.m. near Pitchess Detention Center on The Old Road in Castaic.

As of Wednesday evening, the brush fire has burned approximately 650 acres and is 25 percent contained.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
