Tarlow is scheduled to sign copies of his novel on Dec. 10 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Santa Clarita Veteran Center, located at 23222 Lyons Avenue in Newhall.
The books are set to be 30 percent off, according to officials.
Tarlow will also be reading from select passages and providing behind-the-scenes details and anecdotes from the events that form the backbone of this true life story, according to event officials.
“Great account of what truly happened,” said an Amazon reader. “Good read.”
Tarlow’s book describes how Ian Weintraub, a combat-decorated Marine and skilled lawyer, is called upon by old friends to save the life of their son, now facing the death penalty.
“Ian will pull on his experience from two tours of duty in Vietnam, and strain every fiber of his being to maneuver a courtroom that is stacked against his client,” said officials.
This is Tarlow’s first book, and is based upon a high-profile homicide he defended, which ultimately resulted in a constitutional amendment that gave California the most stringent victims’ rights laws in the U.S., according to the author.
In 1965, Tarlow voluntarily gave up a career with the Baltimore Orioles to join the U.S. Marine Corps.
Once enlisted, he volunteered again, this time to go to war in the Republic of Vietnam where he became one of three senior air traffic controllers within the busiest military airfield in South Vietnam.
On March 1, 1969, Tarlow was promoted to Sergeant E-5, and he was honorably discharged Sept. 17, 1969.
The veteran returned home and chose to drop his baseball dream to instead pursue a law degree at Southwestern University of Law.
In June 1976, Tarlow passed the bar exam, becoming a full-fledged attorney and working on hundreds of unique high-profile cases.
