When he was just 22 years old, Santa Clarita life coach Alex Urbina took a leap of faith by attending a five-day transformational training that would change his life forever.

“It was a personal development workshop that I got invited to by a cousin of mine that had a profound experience and wake-up call for himself and his own life,” Urbina recalled. “I took a leap of faith and I trusted him, and my eyes opened up for the very first time.”

Throughout the training, Urbina found himself conducting a powerful self-assessment and examining his flaws, which he noted was just as challenging for him as it was for others.
“(I had to) figure out what was missing from where I am to where I want to be as a husband, as a dad, as a brother and son, and really just take my life to the next level,” he said.

Following the training, Urbina was inspired to continue his journey of self-improvement by finding his own life coach and surrounding himself with people who also wanted to better themselves.
“I just kept working at it, just kept practicing and practicing and falling and picking myself up,” he said. “And through that constant practice, my consciousness and my awareness just skyrocketed.”
As a result, Urbina noticed himself becoming a more effective, loving and compassionate father, and he wanted to share his experience and knowledge with others by becoming a Santa Clarita life coach himself.
“They say, ‘That which you need to learn, you need to teach,’” he explained. “In my coaching sometimes … I’m giving you some powerful advice, but I’m really telling myself this. So I’m actually getting the goodies too, because I need to hear it for the 100th time or the 250th time.”
For those parents or individuals who may not think they need any self-improvement, Urbina recommends taking the same leap of faith he did so they can be proactive — instead of reactive — when it comes to their family life.
“Most human beings, when their life is going okay, they become comfortable with okay, and as long as it’s not worse, okay is enough,” Urbina said, “until all of a sudden, their kid is 14 or 15 years old and they’re acting out.”
Instead of waiting until that point, Urbina offered parents and individuals an alternative perspective to consider: “Very few people say, ‘You know what? I don’t need it, therefore I need to figure out why I don’t need it. And then in that journey, you discover, ‘Wow, I need this more than anything.’”
