“So we have the Clear the Shelters event once a year and we do this to bring the public out and get alot of our dogs adopted,” said Randi Andrews, volunteer with the Castaic Animal Care Center.

During the adoption event, one family was able to adopt Wyatt, a 2-year-old, Labrador, German Shepard mix.

“I would say it’s very important to adopt instead of shop. I did a lot of rescues growing up and it’s so awesome to them going to good families and good homes,” said Hannah Westbrook, owner of Wyatt.

All fees on adoptions for cats and dogs were waived, added officials.

“We are in a crisis because we are having so many dogs surrendered, dumped and so many strays coming in and we have a lot more intake than we do outtake,” said Andrews.

With all dog adoptions, pet owners received a starter kit of food and treats, and those that adopt a cat go home with a free goody bag.

Select animals are set to come with a Pets Global Gold Card, valued at $99, good towards the purchase of Pets Global products at local retailers.

At the event, guests were able to enjoy food trucks, a pup cup station and more.
