Black Bear Spotted Roaming Canyon Country

Wildlife experts are continuing to track a bear that has been spotted in the Canyon Country area.

On Thursday, a bear was spotted in a tree in a residential area near Lost and Sand Canyon Roads in Canyon Country.

Biologist and law enforcement divisions with the California Fish and Wildlife are tracking the bear for its own safety, said Cort Klopping, a spokesperson for the agency.

“As of this morning, the bear crossed CA 14, moving into the Canyon Palms area,” Klopping said.

As of right now, the bear is not a threat to the safety of the public, according to Klopping.

“The best case is that the bear returns to its habitat without needing capture,” Klopping said.

Klopping says the reason other bears in the Santa Clarita Valley have been captured and relocated in the past is that they have moved farther from their natural habitat.

However, the bear in Canyon Country is still near the area where wild animals can live and not pose safety threats to the community.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
