Dog Killed In Newhall Structure Fire, Second Dog Missing

A dog was killed after a house caught fire in Newhall Tuesday evening, and a second dog is missing as a result of the blaze, officials said.

At around 11:20 p.m. Tuesday, firefighters received reports of a structure fire on the 24000 block of Wayman Street in Newhall, with smoke and fire showing on arrival, according to officials.

When the fire was reported, the family that owned the home and two of their three dogs were able to escape the house. However, the family’s Chihuahua mix Lola was later found deceased, said Rachel Myers, a friend and neighbor of the family.

Although two of the family dogs were able to escape, Lucy, the family’s Puggle, is currently missing, Myers said.

“She is nervous but she will come to you,” she said.

Lucy is described as a brown and white dog, and is about 15 years old, according to Myers.

The family adopted Lucy when she was about two years old, and they are hoping to have their four-legged family member back as soon as possible.

Lucy is reportedly microchipped and wears a collar. However, the phone number on Lucy’s tag goes to a cell phone that was lost in the fire, Myers said.

If anyone comes across Lucy, they are encouraged to call Myers at 818-636-2223.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
