Top 5 Places To Go For A Romantic Weekend In Santa Clarita

Situated on the outskirts of the sprawl of Los Angeles, Santa Clarita is a wonderful scenic metropolitan suburb, bristling with places to see and things to do, especially for courting couples. Recently put on the map by the hilarious black comedy TV series Santa Clarita Diet, starring Hollywood legend Drew Barrymore as a flesh-eating zombie adored by the rest of her warm-blooded family, the real-life version of this sun-soaked region is well worth a visit. Here are the top five places to visit, none of which involve brushing with the undead!

Six Flags Magic Mountain

So you’ve connected with someone on local dating site like this and are eager to invite them somewhere fast-paced where you’ll have every opportunity to know each other better? Look no further than Six Flags, visited by over three million thrill-seeking tourists each year, and current holder of the world record for most rollercoasters in one theme park. Set over 262 acres, there are fast rides to suit every possible taste, from Samurai Summit, themed around Japanese folklore, to the Screampunk District, featuring three of Six Flags’ fastest rides of all. Obviously, you’ll need to take a breather in-between all that wooshing around at white-knuckle speeds, and there are plenty of cafes and restaurants to choose from.

Tea Gardens

Breakfast at the renowned Tea Gardens is virtually synonymous with a visit to Santa Clarita. You can choose from over 70 varieties of tea, as well as freshly-baked delicacies such as scones smothered in mouth-watering jam. The patio tables offer a wonderful ambiance as you enjoy your breakfast beneath the azure skies. If you come across a particular tea which you find especially refreshing, there are opportunities to save samples for later when you visit the Tea Gardens’ souvenir display.

St Francis Dam

If you head over to this Californian landmark expecting to see a vast stretch of water, you’re in for a bit of a shock. The dam itself, once the main reservoir of freshwater for the Los Angeles area, collapsed in 1928, and the resulting flood remains one of the USA’s worst ever engineering disasters. There are still concrete remnants of the original structure visible in the surrounding plain, but the entire area is now a haven for those who enjoy America’s great outdoors. You and your loved one could pack a picnic and go for a hike around the beautiful foothills, taking in the panoramic views surrounding you.

Pulchella Winery

An afternoon spent soaking up the Santa Clarita landscape will always lead to parched throats, and what better way to quench your thirst than the Pulchella Winery? Against a pleasant backdrop of appropriate music and charming décor, you can sample from a variety of locally-produced wines. The knowledgeable staff will explain each stage of the careful fermentation process, allowing you to try several glasses so you can make up your own mind about which particular blend takes your fancy.

Gibbon Conservation Center

Most of us are aware of the great primates of the animal kingdom, the gorillas from Africa or the Orang Utans from Eastern Asia, as well as the monkeys chattering from the tree canopy across the globe. Fewer of us are acquainted with their more furtive cousins, the long-limbed gibbons. Santa Clarita is home to a conservation center where over 40 species of these highly-endangered apes are homed. The gibbons are raised in family groups, and visitors can observe them interacting with their relatives, raising offspring, feeding and singing their plaintive melodies. Keep a memento of your visit by popping into the souvenir shop.
