A big rig driver was found dead on the side of the 5 Freeway in the Grapevine Thursday morning, officials said. 

At about 8:30 a.m. Thursday, California Highway Patrol officers discovered a driver dead on the shoulder of the 5 Freeway near Frazier Mountain Park Road, said Officer Bey with the CHP Fort Tejon – Grapevine Area Office.

“It does not appear to be weather-related,” Bey said. “There was no collision.”

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, according to CHP officials.

The Grapevine was closed at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, but it is unknown how long the driver was on the side of the freeway, according to the CHP.

CHP officers are still investigating the death as of Thursday morning.
