As KHTS Owner Carl Goldman continues to recover in Nebraska after being quarantined on the Diamond Princess cruise ship for nearly two weeks due to an outbreak of coronavirus, two of his fellow passengers have died as a result of the disease.
On Wednesday night, officials with the Japanese Ministry of Health confirmed that two elderly Japanese passengers who contracted COVID-19 — otherwise known as the coronavirus — have died as a result of the disease.
This brings the global coronavirus death count to 2,126 as of Thursday morning.
While disembarkment began Thursday for hundreds of passengers still aboard the Diamond Princess cruise ship in Yokohama, Japan, Carl and his wife, Jeri Seratti-Goldman, were taken back to the United States several days earlier on a flight chartered by the United States government.
However, on the flight back, Carl came down with a fever, prompting health officials to quarantine him off from the rest of the passengers, including Jeri. It was later confirmed when they landed in Nebraska that Carl had tested positive for the coronavirus.

By Monday night, Carl’s fever had broken and he was walking around, and Jeri had tested negative for the virus, according to the couple.
There are three patients, including Carl, being held in the University of Nebraska Medical Center hospital and their spouses are in separate rooms, according to Jeri.

“It’s going to be difficult to be all by myself here for 14 days,” Jeri said when they first arrived. “No clothes, no toothbrush, no brush, no nothing… They said maybe they would provide sweats and a toothbrush. Some shampoo would be nice. Just some general stuff to clean up. This is my life for the next 14 days, by myself.”
Regardless of individuals testing positive for COVID-19, all will be held for 14 days, according to University of Nebraska Medical Center officials.
