Man Killed In High-Speed Newhall Crash Identified

The man who was killed after a high-speed Newhall crash early Monday morning has been identified.

Officials with the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office identified 38-year-old Elias Fuentes Escobar of Inglewood as the man who was killed as the result of a crash in Newhall early Monday morning.

Just before 3 a.m. Monday, officials with the Los Angeles County Fire Department received reports of an expanded traffic collision near the intersection of Railroad Avenue and 5th Street in Newhall.

“They got on scene at 3 a.m.,” said Supervisor Sims with the department. “A vehicle was overturned, and one person was trapped.”

Officials worked for nearly 45 minutes to free the driver, a male adult in his 30’s who was the sole occupant of the single-vehicle crash, according to officials.

“One person was pronounced dead at the scene,” said Sergeant Westerfield with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

While the crash is still under investigation, Westerfield confirmed that investigators had determined that speed was a factor.

No other injuries were reported in connection with the crash.

Any witnesses to the crash are urged to contact officials at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station at (661) 255-1121.

  1. “The identity of the driver is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin as of Monday morning.”

And yet, in the first sentence of this article, it says, “Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office identified 38-year-old Elias Fuentes Escobar of Inglewood…”

Geez, is anyone editing your writing?

    • Well, the title of the article is “Man Killed In High-Speed Newhall Crash Identified,” so I’m guessing the addition of his identity is an addendum to the original article.

“The identity of the driver is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin as of Monday morning.” It’s now Wednesday, so I’m guessing the next of kin has been notified.
