The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Search and Rescue Team and the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Aero Bureau were able to locate an overturned off-road vehicle in a ravine in Rowher Flats at approximately 4:30 p.m., said Lt. Derek Sabatini with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. A deceased man was found near the vehicle, he continued.

A blue Ford truck was found parked for an extended amount of time in Rowher Flats on Saturday morning, which sparked the search.

Sabatini could not confirm or deny the man found dead was the owner of the truck, adding that the investigation will be handled by the California Highway Patrol and the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner.

Jared Yochim, a Santa Clarita Valley resident, posted on Facebook that he saw the man’s truck and became worried.

The following is what Yochim wrote on Facebook, and as of 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, the post had been shared over 550 times.

“Tonight a spot-on offroader noticed this Blue Ford parked at Rowher Flats (Texas Canyon) at 7 p.m. When he drove by again at 11 p.m. he noticed that the truck was still sitting there. Concerned, he posted to an off-road FB page about his concern for whomever the truck belongs to. A few MAJOR easily noticed things stand out that tell you this guy didn’t plan to be gone long.

What we did learn was, this guy doesn’t have anyone that would or could report him missing. He doesn’t have any family that he has regular contact with. Nobody would even know that this guy is missing.

His name is Michael Skelton. He lived in Saugus. If you know Michael or anything about him, speak up. If you know what kind of OHV he had, speak up. Someone knows this guy and someone needs to find him. It’s below 30 degrees and windy as hell out there. Im hoping that someone from the offroad site puts together something to go look for him when the sun comes up.”

Later, Yochim posted, “So far 6 guys including one of his friends are here. Just learning that the truck was here since at least Tuesday night and conditions are miserable here.”

This is a continuing story, and KHTS AM-1220 will update as more information is made available.

  1. You have the wrong persons name on the article. It was Oscar Torres not Jarred Yochim. Go to the socal offroad recovery and you’ll read who started the search.

  2. Wow, I was told that the guy showed up on Sunday night the 13th at 10 pm. yes the 13th. unloaded his atv and never came back. I was told this on the 19th and went up to see if the truck was still there. It was so i called the Santa Clarita sheriffs and told them about it. they said they would check into it. I checked on it a few times during the week but nothing seemed to be done. Sad the guy had to sit up there for two weeks.

  3. Oscar Torres a member of the Facebook group SoCal offroad recovery is the spot on member that initially saw the truck and became worried. He searched all night and all day the following day to find the missing man. His post started the search and rescue. So sad that this information is left out. So the heros I’m my eyes is everyone who searched with their vehicles, gas, and time but the true hero is the one man who didn’t just drive past. That is Oscar Torres
