Nearly 100 detached condos are expected to be discussed by the Santa Clarita Planning Commission on Tuesday, officials said.
The 93-condo project is slated for the corner of Sierra Highway and Dockweiler Drive in Newhall, according to Mike White, with the developer, Dockweiler 21, LLC.
“The condos are detached, and are designed to look like homes,” White said. “It is a lot like Via Metro, but with more space in between.”
The applicant is requesting approval to subdivide and develop a 19.39-acre site with 93 detached single-family condominium units, in addition to an associated private recreational facility and various site improvements, according to the planning commission agenda.
“We have pretty good support from the neighborhood,” White said. “We wanted the project to ‘fit in’ with the surrounding community.”
Surrounding the proposed development are single-family homes, apartments and the cross streets of Sierra Highway and Dockweiler Drive.
Originally submitted on Sept. 25, the project has been delayed by several weeks due to the easement agreements not being completed in time for agenda posting, according to the commission.
The condominium project is set to be further discussed at the Dec. 3 meeting.

The article was written yesterday Nov 04, 2019… “Nearly 100 detached condos are expected to be discussed by the Santa Clarita Planning Commission on Tuesday, officials said”.
I could be wrong but the above quotation says “discussed by Santa Clarita Planning Commission on Tuesday” that would lead me to believe tonight Tuesday the 5th of November. The public is always invited and the meetings have been taking place at City Hall for just over 31 years.
Why??? Has anyone reviewed the traffic impact this will have!!! Traffic is already getting worse. What about other homes that are available to buy,, lease etc. I would hesitate buying anything in that area after the fires we just had why are homes etc being built in canyons or up on a hill so the fires can go right up the hill to the homes?? These are just my thoughts and to see if it has been reviewed in all areas before planning this. Please look deeply into the impact in all areas this will cause.
Detached Condos? Isn’t that another name for a house?
No. It’s A house split up in the several units most common is four units per house. Everyone should show up to this meeting in protest this! They are not going to add any new highway patrol officers, sheriffs etc. to police all these new residents. They are not going to add any lanes to the freeways or surrounding streets.
If we don’t have enough water for current residents- how can the SCV water support additional units or houses???
Because money talks. Then suddenly, there’s ‘enough water!’ for all!!!! Imagine that.
those are SINGLE famly houses… condos? really? scamming the city
Comment is for the Planning Commission as much as I am for private Enterprise and for landowners to be able to develop their land their also needs to be better checks and balances just as there is occupancy limits and fire escape requirements for any building it should be no different for any City as we recently saw in the tick fire and the Saddle Ridge fire when there is a local emergency this town is complete chaos there’s nowhere to go there’s only one way in and one way out and it becomes gridlock before any more building is allowed there should be more ways in and out of the city and better ways in and out such as widening the freeways any building along and Alternate route out of here such as Sierra Highway which is an alternate route to the 14 should be extremely Limited
I am just validating all other opinions. I live in this area and it is truly disappointing to hear that the city or development is willing to risk lives of citizens of Santa Clarita for money. We will be trapped without proper accessibility!!! So infuriated.
