Businesses with five or more employees are now being required to provide training to all employees by January 1, 2020, with one hour mandated for non-supervisory staff and two hours for supervisors, according to Holly Schroeder, president and CEO of the SCVEDC.
“It used to be the managers had to get the training, and now it’s both managers and employees,” Schroeder said. “And the threshold is lower.”

In partnership with College of the Canyons and AMS Fulfillment, the SCVEDC is offering low-cost sexual harassment prevention training in the Valencia Commerce Center every other week as part of their selection of ongoing job skills training classes this summer and fall.
“Those are actually offered during the workday because they are mandated,” Schroeder said. “Hopefully it’s convenient for an employee to get there and get back to work without a lot of extra delays.”
Schroeder noted that businesses not yet in compliance with the new law are running out of time to have their employees’ training completed before the Jan. 1, 2020 deadline.
“Get it out of the way, demonstrate your compliance, people learn something along the way, you make the world a better place — and that’s what we’re trying to help happen,” she said. “We’ve got five more months for employers to become compliant and make sure that they are meeting all those new expectations.”
