Starbucks recently announced plans to expand the “Starbucks Delivers” service to Santa Clarita in the coming weeks, officials said Monday.
The introduction of the service is part of a larger initiative to expand delivery with Uber Eats throughout the country following a successful test pilot in Miami in the fall of 2018.
“At Uber Eats, we’re always looking for new ways to offer people the widest selection of food they love. That’s why we’re so excited to deliver Starbucks fans their favorite food and beverages in a way that’s as easy as requesting a ride,” said Jason Droege, vice president and head of UberEverything.
The company plans to expand the service to select stores in Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, New York and Washington, D.C. in the coming weeks.
In total, Starbucks Delivers will be available in seven U.S. cities this spring, according to officials.
“All of our baristas have been trained for the new service and know all about it, so don’t be afraid to ask us any questions you may have,” said Santa Clarita Starbucks Manager Chris Kelsey.
Customers can access Starbucks Delivers via the Uber Eats app, available on iOS and Android devices.
Once within the app, customers can place and customize orders, choosing from nearly 95 percent of core items on the Starbucks menu.
The app also allows users to track the progress and location of their order to ensure items arrive within 30 minutes, according to officials.
Each order is subject to a $2.50 booking fee; however there is no minimum order amount.
“Our regulars were definitely aware of the rollout, but I think being in Santa Clarita, there’s not as much demand for delivery here as there will be in more urban centers,” said Kelsey.
On Jan. 22, San Francisco became the first city to have the service officially launched.
This domestic expansion joins other delivery initiatives Starbucks has implemented internationally in China, Japan, India, Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, Mexico, Columbia and Chile, with plans to expand the service in Europe through a limited pilot in London.
“Be it breakfast delivered straight to the soccer field or afternoon lattés to the office, we know this partnership will delight our customers,” said Droege.
