“I’m actively involved with the organizations to help them spread the news, help them achieve what their mission statements are and then get the word out to our community that these organizations need some general support and awareness,” Dominguez said.

His goal when he first became an “active member” of the community was to “enrich us all in one way or the other.”

In addition to his personal involvement with Santa Clarita’s nonprofits, as vice president and area manager of Union Bank, Dominguez has also strived to involve the Union Bank Foundation board in local causes.

In 2014 the foundation donated approximately $80,000 exclusively to nonprofits in the Santa Clarita Valley, and Dominguez’s goal is to increase that number this year.

“I take pride in reaching out to my Union Bank family,” he said, “and really knocking on the door and being an advocate for our nonprofits… I’m very fortunate to work for an organization that allows me to do what I do and what I’m passionate about.”

As a banker, Dominguez also participates in financial education activities for junior high and high school students through Operation Hope, which allow students to meet for a day of real-life scenario simulations with experienced bankers who can educate them on managing their finances.

“We’re actually teaching them about finances and how to manage their lives, so they’re an adult for the day,” Dominguez said. “They simulate that they’re either married, they have children, they’re single, they have jobs, and how do they manage their monies? How do they pay their utility bills, their rent, their insurance and so forth?”

Dominguez started out as a bank teller 28 years ago and is celebrating his 15th year at Union Bank.

“I enjoy helping people with solutions and remedies and options and taking them from one step of their lives to the next step,” he said. “That’s actually really rewarding for me.”
