A Celestial Smile: The Moon Beams With A Rare Grin

On Friday, the moon and two planets will line up to create a ‘smiley face’ in the night sky.

Venus and Saturn are set to be a part of a triple conjunction with the crescent moon to create a smirk in a tiny window of time from around 5:30 am to sunrise around an hour later.

What is a Triple Conjunction?

A conjunction is when two or more celestial objects emerge in the night sky together, while a triple conjunction is when there are three objects, according to Beauty of Planet.

Two days after this rare delight, a new ‘supermoon’ will occur on April 27th. The moon will be at its closest distance to Earth, approximately 221,900 miles away, which is known as a perigee. The average distance of the moon to the Earth is usually 238,900 miles.

However, it will not be visible on Earth, as the new moon is invisible from our planet because the Moon’s night side faces us, while the far side is illuminated by the Sun, according to NASA.

What is a new moon?

A new moon is when there is 0% of the moon to be visible on Earth.

So mark your calendars, skygazers and don’t miss this two-night show from the universe.
