All Southbound 5 Freeway Lanes To Be Closed Overnight

All southbound lanes on the 5 Freeway between Calgrove Boulevard and the 14 Freeway are set to be closed for construction Wednesday evening.

Between 10 p.m. Wednesday and 4 a.m. Thursday, the 5 Freeway between Calgrove Boulevard and the 14 Freeway will be closed due to the Metro’s I-5 North County Enhancements Project, according to officials.

Workers are set to remove overhead signs in the project corridor and replace them with temporary signs, followed by installing permanent signage when construction is complete, officials said.

“On the night of Wednesday, Sept. 27, workers will remove the overhead sign along southbound I-5 on the existing Weldon Canyon Road Bridge,” officials said. “This work will require the temporary closure of all lanes on southbound I-5 from Calgrove Boulevard to State Route 14 in Santa Clarita from 10 p.m. Wednesday, September 27, to 4 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 28.”

Drivers needing to continue south during the closure can use the following detour:

Exit southbound 5 Freeway at Calgrove Boulevard, continue south on The Old Road, south on San Fernando Road and Sepulveda Boulevard, to the StilI-5 southbound on-ramp.

The schedule is subject to change due to weather and operational reasons.

The northbound side of the 5 Freeway is not expected to be impacted by the construction during this closure.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
