Another school vending machine has once again been vandalized by a man who has been targeting the snack machines since December.
On Monday, a vending machine at Hart High School was the most recent vending machine to have been vandalized, said Lisa Burke, the owner of Santa Clarita Concessions, who provides the snack machines to schools in the Santa Clarita Valley.
“Last night at Hart High School they broke into what we call the bill validator where the cash is collected,” Burke said.
Since December, Santa Clarita Concessions has fallen victim to several vandalism cases where a man with a pickaxe has damaged multiple vending machines on different school campuses to gain cash. Since then, all the vending machines on school grounds have begun to convert to only accept credit cards in attempts to deter people from stealing cash.
Burke says the incident at Hart High School was the first time the man has struck since mid February.
Due to Santa Clarita Concessions still waiting for their insurance payment from earlier this year, some of the vending machines that were the first to be hit that were unrepairable have yet to be restored.
Since Burke’s Parents started Santa Clarita Concessions back in 1955 — making them the fourth oldest business in Santa Clarita — they have been very active in supporting local non-profits and giving back to the schools.
“At the junior high and high schools that we service in Santa Clarita they have our vending machines,” Burke said in a previous KHTS article. “The vandalism does not only affect us, but the schools ASB, because we give back to the schools. If we don’t have business they’re not getting money from us.”
