Yet another bear sighting has been reported in the Santa Clarita Valley, marking the sixth such sighting within the past two weeks alone.
At roughly 6:30 a.m. Thursday, a bear was reported in the backyard of a home near Shangri-La Drive in Canyon Country.
“I called the Sheriff’s and they were headed to our home, but then the bear jumped over the fence into an open wilderness area,” resident Sue Antico wrote in an email to KHTS.
The homeowner’s association for the neighborhood later sent out an email to residents to warn them to be on the lookout, according to Antico.
That was not the end of the bear sightings for the day however. Later that evening, just before 11:00 p.m., a home security system managed to catch a glimpse of a wandering black bear near Sierra Highway and American Beauty Drive in Canyon Country.
The Thursday sightings stirred up community concerns, however, there is no word as to whether or not this is one of the same bears that were spotted previously.
These are the first bear sightings that have taken place in Canyon Country as the other four have taken place in Stevenson Ranch or Valencia on the western side of the Santa Clarita Valley.

On the morning of Friday, May 10, around 7 a.m. a bear was reported to Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s deputies in a tree near Mill Valley Road and Avenida Frasca, said Lt. Ignacio Somoano with the Sheriff’s Station.
“Deputies did see a bear sleeping in the tree,” Somoano said.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department was requested by Fish and Wildlife in order to extract the bear from the tree, according to Austin Bennett, spokesperson for the department.

On Sunday, May 5, a Ring security device captured footage of a bear walking through a driveway of a home in the Stevenson Ranch area.
Two days later, on May 7, volunteers with the Placerita Canyon Nature Center helped watch another bear after it was spotted in Stevenson Ranch, according to Russell Kimura, who serves as regional parks superintendent.
“The bear they saw was simply up in a tree,” Kimura said. “The neighbors knew just to let that animal be. That’s the best scenario.”
Later that night, a third bear sighting was reported off of Laguna Court in Valencia, which prompted deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station to respond to the scene.

Despite the bear sightings being reported within days of one another, officials had no way of knowing whether it was the same bear involved in all three incidents or not, as none of the bears were tagged.

Poor bears being driven from their homes by all of the construction in the hills around us its no wonder
I agree, too much construction is digging into their habitat, that’s why SCV is so congested. When are they going to stop?! I’m wondering if the big contruction companies are doing something to rattle snake habitats, that we don’t know about..
This breaks my heart, too much building , could they be looking for food ? Are they hungry, I hope not, that would break my heart. I feel so bad, I’ve lived in Santa Clarita for over 30 yrs and never seen or heard of bears in any neighborhoods. We need to help them
