Bridgeport Posts ‘No Trespassing, No Fishing’ Signs Following Resident Complaints About E-Bikes & Fishing

New signs warning against trespassing, fishing and feeding ducks have appeared around Bridgeport Lake in Valencia as residents continue voicing concerns about disruptive behavior and safety issues in the neighborhood.

The signs, recently installed along the lake’s shoreline and landscaped areas, read: *“NO TRESPASSING. Lawn and landscaped areas are the private property of and for the use of the Bridgeport Community Association. Residents Only. NO FISHING. NO DUCK FEEDING.”* The signs also reference Title 14 CCR 251.1 and Penal Code Section 602.

The added restrictions come after Bridgeport residents spoke during the June 9 Santa Clarita City Council meeting, describing ongoing problems involving unauthorized fishing, damage to landscaping and groups of teens riding e-bikes through the community.

“I live in Bridgeport. It’s a beautiful lake, but we are troubled by these things at all hours of the day and the night,” resident Deborah Volks told council members.

“I went to my car last night. There they were fishing on the bridge again. I’m tired of chasing them off. I’m tired of having profanities thrown at me. That’s not safety.”

Amy Hausman, a Bridgeport resident who has previously spoken out about e-bike activity in the neighborhood, said fishing has become another growing issue affecting residents’ quality of life.

“Twenty-five years ago, this lake was built for the community to walk through, to enjoy, not to destroy,” Hausman said. “Not to have e-bikes terrorize us, fishing poles and hooks ruining the landscape and animals, killing the wildlife and destroying the beauty.”

Hausman added that Bridgeport security personnel contacted more than 100 people fishing around the lake in the previous month, including about 30 individuals who arrived on e-bikes.

For months, residents from neighborhoods including Bridgeport, Valencia and Newhall have appeared before the City Council saying groups of teens on e-bikes and electric motorcycles are turning Santa Clarita’s once peaceful paseos into places where families no longer feel comfortable walking.

“It’s like a modern-day posse,” Hausman told city leaders during the May meeting.

Bridgeport residents say some of the same groups riding through the paseos are also using the bikes to access the lake for fishing and other activities not permitted by the homeowners association.
