Canyon Santa Clarita Announces Closure Due To ‘Inability To Operate Under Existing Conditions’

The Canyon Santa Clarita announced Wednesday it will be closing down due to a dispute with the Westfield Valencia Town Center and the “inability to operate under existing conditions.”

The Canyon Santa Clarita made their decision to close after management at the Valencia Town Center installed bathroom’s above the Canyon that flooded the venue causing over $1 million in damage, Lance Sterling, owner of the Canyon told KHTS Radio. Lance shared Westfield is self insured and has refused to pay for any damages. The Canyon is unable to use one-third of its space due to the water damage.

Although the flood was the nail in the coffin, multiple other issues played a role in their decision to close the Canyon.

KHTS Radio has heard reports that since Sears went out of business back in 2018, the vacant building has become infested with rodents which has impacted several businesses in the Mall including the Canyon Santa Clarita.

When the Canyon first opened, the owner of the Valencia Town Center at the time agreed to let the club utilize doors into the main part of the Mall after hours as an  exit, according to Sterling.

Since the new owners have taken over, the doors to the Mall have not been able to be used by the Canyon, resulting in guest needing to walk to the opposite side of the mall outside to get to their cars, Sterling said.

Due to all the problems that have snowballed and the “inability to operate under existing conditions,” Sterling decided to close the doors.

With the announcement of the Canyon Santa Clarita closing, upcoming shows scheduled for Friday and Saturday have been rescheduled and moved to other Canyon locations, according to their Facebook.

The Gene Loves Jezebel and Bow Wow Wow show scheduled for Friday at The Canyon Santa Clarita has been relocated to The Canyon Montclair, 5060 Montclair Plaza Space #2020 on Saturday Jan. 7.

The U2 Tribute by Hollywood U2 scheduled for Saturday at The Canyon Santa Clarita has been relocated to The Canyon Agoura Hills, 28912 Roadside Drive  on Friday Jan. 13, according to the Canyon Santa Clarita’s Facebook page.

Customers who have purchased tickets for upcoming shows, can use those tickets at the relocated venues or get a refund, Sterling said

KHTS Radio reached out to the Valencia Town Center for comment but they did not return our calls.

  1. This is a major bummer, man. This city gets no action on the music scene…this was our only chance at real music acts, even though many groups/performers were past their prime still better than nothing.

I hope something better becomes an option in downtown Newhall. The Main is a dump and The Canyon Theater Guild’s lineup is cornball city and needs a total overhaul.

  2. This is unfortunate from a venue perspective as live music venues just cant seem to make it. Though it seems odd from a tenant perspective as the contract should specify they have to be provided a useable space. If not, the landlord has to make it right. Something doesn’t sound right. It almost feels like they have been looking for reasons to shut down ever since covid. I hope a solution can be found.

  3. Something doesnt add up here.. the second floor bathrooms at that side of the mall have been there all along, although they have been “closed for construction” for a couple of years now… Why is it now an issue?
Maybe the multiple failures of their adjacent across from the entrance food ventures (CaliBurger, the failed attempt at lunch, and what appears to be a always empty coffee shop) contributed…

  4. If this is true, this is going to be another nail in the coffin for Valencia Town Center. I am surprised this mall is still even open. So many stores have left. Most women’s stores carry the same clothes and are cheaply made. It is so sad to see the quality go down hill. Canyon Club should have been reimbursed for their damages!

  5. Nooo!!!!!!!!!! I’m so bummed out. Common, Westfield. Fix this.

  6. Way to go Westfield, your contributions to the Town Center are going south, and your incompetence is showing!

  7. No apostrophe on “bathrooms”.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
