Chrissy Tiegen, a model and television personality, recently donated $10,000 to a GoFundMe for a Santa Clarita family that was involved in a crash.
The GoFundMe was started four days ago for a young Santa Clarita couple and their child after they crashed on their way home from the Ventura County Fair in early August.
Jared and Hillary Duchow and their 5-year-old son Ryder were driving on the 126 when they say a wrong-way driver hit them.
Hillary was able to kick her way out of the totaled car and administer first aid to both Jared and Ryder, according to the GoFundMe.
Jared’s right arm was badly injured and had to be amputated above the elbow, according to the GoFundMe. His hip muscle was also torn, and four of his ribs were broken.
“Jared was an excellent bowler, soccer player, baseball player and more,” the GoFundMe said. “At family picnics, he was the one who played frisbee with the kids and tossed his son up in the air. He taught Ryder how to ride his bike, and he fixed everything around the house.”
Ryder was able to attend kindergarten after missing the first few days of school, according to the GoFundMe.
“Ryder spent three days in two different hospitals,” the GoFundMe said. “Initially, they were afraid he had a brain bleed.”
The child hasn’t talked about the accident yet. It is recommended that he go to therapy, the GoFundMe said.
Because the other driver was reportedly uninsured, the family has had to cover their own medical expenses.
Money from the fund would help pay for a prosthetic arm for the father, who lost his arm due to the collision.
Tiegen donated $10,000 to the fund three days ago.
So far, people have donated over $45,000 to the GoFundMe, which has a goal of raising $100,000.
