The City of Santa Clarita has been named the 13th safest city in the United States in a recent report from a personal finance company.
To assess the safest cities, the personal finance company MoneyGeek analyzed crime statistics and applied research findings to estimate the cost of crime in over 300 cities across the United States, each with populations over 100,000, according to the study.
“Amid record infections and deaths from COVID-19 and a summer of intense and pervasive social protests, safety has taken on new significance in 2020”, reads a statement from Moneygeek.
Researchers calculated each city’s cost of crime and ranked the cities based on the cost of crime per capita, thus finding the safest and most dangerous cities to live in America.
According to the study, Santa Clarita was rated the fourth safest city in the state of California. The cost of crime per capita totaled out to $315 per year for each Santa Clarita citizen, compared to $9,334 in the most dangerous city in America: St. Louis, MO.
The financial components factored to reach that number include medical and mental health care needs for victims, damage to and loss of property, as well as police and corrections costs. Aside from the looming danger of crime and lack of safety, people living in higher crime areas see depreciated home values and pay higher prices for essential needs like home and auto insurance.
Santa Clarita’s violent crime rate totaled at 127 with a property crime rate totaling at 944 in 2019.
Other Southern California cities made the list including Thousand Oaks ranking 2nd, Irvine placing 5th and Simi Valley ranking 9th.
The full data set including each city’s population, cost of crime, and crime rates by type of crime are included at the end of the article here.

Did it drop from #5 in one month?
#5 ranking was in California. We were once #4 in the nation. It will keep falling as CA officials continue to favor criminal activity over law and order. The Sheriffs do what they can but if laws continue to get more lax and criminal sympathizers like Gascon keep getting pushed into office, sadly it won’t get better. CA experienced a crime wave in the 80’s when progressive politics took hold. Voters woke up, got tough on crime and things improved dramatically. Then the progressives regained control and now things are predictably deteriorating again.
does anyone take polls seriously? “from a personal finance company” Anyone else get the sense that any article on this website aside from the ones in political or corvid nature are long form paid advertisements?
Who believes polls anymore??
Get CA sane: Oh, thanks! Still pretty good! We’ll see what happens within one year with demonic Liberal Gas-con & it’s ilk! May God have mercy on the decent citizens and help the condoning Liberals!
It’s very easy to blame a few individuals or specific political affiliations but that’s simply lazy and disingenuous analysis. There are more than a few reasons that crime has risen throughout the nation not just in Los Angeles or Santa Clarita specifically. The cost of living has skyrocketed and wages have stagnated in comparison, the stock market is doing well but 1 in 6 children go to bed hungry and finally there’s the pandemic. There’s so many more variab Come on, let’s be honest people or did violence on 1-6-21 teach us nothing!
I’m expecting the SCV to drop further down the list in the next couple of days. Angry Trump traitors who were marching and screaming on Magic My Pkwy yesterday put a man in the hospital. So messed up.?
we used to be #2 when I moved out here 1990. then we got overpopulated
To many State officials turn their backs on Crimes in California, they dont care only if it touches home in their rich neighborhoods
We pay high taxes why are Criminals being released when our OFFICERS try so hard to arrest them such a waste,
What about the family lost their love ones or the children sex offenders
13th safest city big deal.
We were once 3rd safest city 20+years ago.
SCV was once a beautiful city and now a run down ghetto going no where but down hill. So sad.
That was a more peaceful time! SCV was about 80% Republican and now it’s around 42% Republican—- Interesting, any correlations?! Hopefully we’ll never deteriorate to the Liberal cities from Seattle to LA, Chicago, Baltimore, Minneapolis, Kenosha, Philadelphia, NY, Detroit, etc.!
Read the criteria. Pretty stupid list.
Agreed. I’m surprised they didn’t include the feng shui of the city as pertains to “spiritual” safety.
There was a rape in Central Park on Dec 21st. Why didn’t that make the news? Don’t let articles like this cause you to let your guard down.
Reports are done with pencils and erasers.
