Community Rallies After Saugus High School Shooting

After the Saugus High School shooting, the Santa Clarita community has rallied to support the victims.

The events surrounding the Saugus High School shooting, with two confirmed dead and multiple injured, have brought the community together to mourn and support the shooting victims and survivors, according to Sheriff’s officials. 

“We are all grieving and in shock as a result of today’s terrible events,” said William S. Hart Union High School District Deputy Superintendent Mike Kuhlman.

Counseling 

In collaboration with the City of Santa Clarita, the district has arranged to have the Activities Center open from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday evening for students and community members to gather and receive support.

“We will have counseling support available at that time. We welcome everyone to join us,” said Kuhlman. 

The Activities Center is located at 20880 Centre Pointe Parkway and can be reached by telephone at (661) 250-3703.

The Samuel Dixon Family Health Center is scheduled to hold support groups for those affected by the Saugus High School shooting, according to Administration Manager Daisy Wyche. These support groups are set to take place Thursday, Nov. 14 at 4, 5, and 6 p.m. at 23772 Newhall Ave and 25115 W. Avenue Stanford Suite A-104.

Elevate Church is providing any Saugus High students or parents with trauma support by having a therapist and psychologist available. Office Administrator Jasmine Romero urges those interested in these services to contact Elevate Church at (661) 259-4781 or email them here

Elevate Church is located at 24346 Main Street in Newhall.

Vigils 

Grace Baptist Church is set to hold a prayer vigil tonight, Thursday, Nov. 14., from 6 to 8 p.m. in their main worship center. Grace Baptist Church is located at 22833 Copper Hill Drive and can be contacted by telephone at (661) 296-8737.

Saugus High School students and alumni are set to hold a vigil to honor everyone affected by the shooting Sunday night, Nov. 17, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the flagpole in Central Park. Attendees are requested to bring candles.

The park is located at 27234 Bouquet Canyon Road.

Valencia United Methodist Church is expected to also hold a special prayer service at 7 p.m., and will keep their Sanctuary open throughout the day for those who wish to pray for the victims and survivors. Attendees can expect candles, music and prayer, according to Ministry Coordinator Susann Sleutjes.

Bouquet Canyon Church is set to provide prayer and comfort service tonight, Thursday, Nov 14 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. according to church official Tina Louise Penn. Bouquet Canyon Church can be reached by telephone at (661) 481-0801, and is located at 27000 Bouquet Canyon Rd.

Additionally, Sri Siddhi Vinayaka Temple in Valencia is set to host a vigil on Saturday, Nov. 16, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., where a clinical psychologist is set to be made available to any who may need it.

The temple is located at 28910 Avenue Sherman in Valencia.

Support Groups

The Child & Family Center is set to offer crisis support groups today, Nov. 14, at 4, 5 and 6 p.m. as well as tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 15 at 11 a.m., 3 p.m., 4 p.m. and 5 p.m., and Saturday, Nov. 16 at 11 a.m., 4 p.m., 5 p.m and 6 p.m, said Community Outreach Coordinator Cheryl Jones. 

Jones said these support groups are “open to anyone in the community.”

The Child & Family Center has also provided information on healing from trauma in the wake of the tragedy online for community members. The Child & Family Center can be contacted by telephone at (661) 259-9439 and is located at 21545 Centre Pointe Pkwy.
