Disneyland To Retire Rides To Make Way For New Attractions

The Disneyland Resort announced major expansion plans including a new parking structure and details on upcoming “Avatar” and “Coco” attractions at Disney California Adventure Park.

New Disneyland Parking Structure

A new 6,000-space parking structure will be built east of Harbor Boulevard, featuring a pedestrian bridge and redesigned esplanade arrival area. Construction is expected to begin in fall 2026.
Additional features include:

  • Designated shuttle and rideshare zones
  • Enhanced security screening
  • Dedicated traffic access from Disney Way

These upgrades aim to reduce congestion and improve guest flow across the Disneyland resort.

“Coco” Attraction

A new “Coco”-themed ride is coming to Disney California Adventure, inspired by the film’s vibrant journey through the Land of the Dead.

The attraction will showcase colorful, immersive scenes following Miguel’s story and will use cutting-edge Audio-Animatronics technology.

Imagineers are drawing creative inspiration from beloved classics like Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean. While the ride’s exact location in the park has not been revealed, it’s being described as a major new addition.

“We’re bringing our skeletal cast of characters to life in a big way,” said Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro. “These figures will appear in ways you’ll have to see to believe.”

“Avatar” Land Coming to California Adventure

Disney also revealed that a new Avatar-themed land will be developed in the current Hollywood Backlot area. The land will feature an all-new attraction that takes guests through the world of Pandora in a boat-style ride.

While it draws comparisons to the Na’vi River Journey at Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom, concept art suggests this version will be larger, more immersive, and potentially more thrilling, while retaining the stunning visuals and storytelling of a ride-through experience.

To make way for the new land, Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue will permanently close in 2026.
