Two suspects, one from Arizona, were arrested after they allegedly stole merchandise from a Canyon Country sporting goods store Saturday.

“On Saturday night, two men entered a sporting goods store on the 26500 block of Carl Boyer Drive, Canyon Country and stole over $1,000 worth of merchandise,” Sheriff’s officials said. “Thanks to sharp observations from store staff, who provided detailed descriptions of the suspects and their vehicle to our dispatchers, SCV Sheriff’s deputies were able to quickly stop the vehicle before it reached the freeway.”

Andrew Hernandez, 32, from Parker, AZ, and Kishore Welch, 38, from Van Nuys, were identified and arrested for felony grand theft and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

They were booked into the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail, where they remained in custody without bail as of Monday afternoon.

“If you want to shop in SCV, stealing here just isn’t free,” Sheriff’s officials said. “Pay for your things, do what’s right. We’re always ready to respond quickly to protect our community from crime.”
