The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has updated the online driver’s license and identification card application, speeding up the application process.

The new online application design, announced by the DMV Friday, includes modules and simplified language.

“Applying for a driver’s license or identification card is even easier with our new online driver’s license and ID application,” said DMV Director Steve Gordon. “This upgrade is just another way the DMV continues to modernize our systems to save you time and limit the work required on your end.”

The updated application will cut the time it takes to complete the process in half, according to the DMV. It will now take 10 minutes, DMV officials said.

After they finish their applications, users can upload their documents and schedule an office visit appointment.

Those who are eligible can take a knowledge test online as well.

When applicants attend their DMV appointments with their uploaded documents and confirmation code, DMV employees can access the online application and quickly finalize the transaction.

The online application is available in English, Spanish, Chinese, Korean, Khmer, Thai, Vietnamese, Tagalog, Japanese and Hindi.
