Dozens Of Demonstrators Gather In Valencia After Breonna Taylor Case Ruling

Dozens of people gathered on the corner of Valencia Boulevard and McBean Parkway in Valencia Sunday to protest the results of a grand jury in relation to the case of the shooting death of Breonna Taylor.

Sunday afternoon, dozens of people gathered on the corner of one of the major intersections in Santa Clarita, the same corner that has become the center of action for protestors and demonstrators throughout the year.

While the demonstrators may have gathered together for many different causes, including the Breonna Taylor ruling or immigration reform, the core idea behind all of their causes was based on injustices happening around the country, according to one of the organizers.

“I’m here because Breonna Taylor could have been me, it could have been somebody that I love, it could have been one of my friends, it could have been my sister, it could have been anybody,” said Lauryn Valley, one of many many local organizers. “I do think that the color of her skin played a large role in the justice that she got, and just because we’re not in Louisville doesn’t mean that it doesn’t affect us or my life, that’s why we’re out here.”

On Wednesday, former Louisville Metro Police Department Officer Brett Hankinson was charged with three counts of “wanton endangerment” for firing a weapon, potentially endangering Taylor’s neighbors. Two other officers —  Myles Cosgrove and Jonathan Mattingly —  are on leave from the department and face no charges.

“Wanton endangerment” is a Class D felony, the lowest of four classes of felonies. The maximum sentence is five years; the minimum is one year. If convicted, Hankison faces five years imprisonment for each count, Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron said at a press conference Wednesday.

Hankinson’s shots came “from outside a sliding glass door and through a bedroom window,” according to a statement from the attorney general’s office. Some of the bullets went through Taylor’s apartment and into one next door, where three people were inside, including a pregnant woman and a child.

Following the lack of murder charges brought against the officers involved in Taylor’s death, protests and demonstrations have cropped up across the nation, including Santa Clarita.

“‘Black Lives Matter’ isn’t me saying that I’m more important than you. It isn’t me saying that I hate you; it isn’t me saying that being white is bad, it’s simply saying that my life matters,” said Valley. “If something bad happens to you, you don’t question if you’re going to get justice. But if something bad were to happen to me, I would question how the case is going to be handled because of the skin color that I was born with, factors that I can’t control, and all I’m saying is that my life matters and I shouldn’t have to think about these things.”

Dozens Of Demonstrators Gather In Valencia After Breonna Taylor Case Ruling

  1. It is sad that Breonna Taylor died. Keep in mind her ex-boyfriend was using her home as hub to deal drugs. So when police go to her home to look for this lowlife, her new boyfriend shoots his gun through the door. I don’t anyone in law enforcement who would not return fire at this criminal. Her boyfriend is responsible for bringing on her tragic death.

    • Or it could be the lies they told to get the warrant. Or the fact this committed a No-Knock Warrant. These cops claim they decided to announce themselve – but then again they lied on the Warrant Application and on the Police Report so who to believe ? Hmmm ? Boyfried thought Ex was breaking in and shot because NO ONE SAID POLICE AS THEY WERE BATTERING THE DOOR IN !!! One cop shot blindly through a sliding glass door that had curtains drawn. Luckily Barney Fife didn’t kill his own partners. Oh he shot TEN TIMES blindly into the apartment. It was a bad deal all the way around, when people justify horrific tragedies because of incompetent police they just confirm systemic racism exists. And it doesn’t matter you can jump up and down saying it doesn’t exist but your confirmation bias reveals you know it exists, otherwise you would have reached for facts to delve into, instead of claims to justify your positions.

    • Your telling lies Rufus, your ignorant comment should be deleted. NO ONE was dealing drugs out of her house. Not sure if you are ignorant or pushing a false narrative out of some twisted psychosis you suffer from. If it’s a lack of education, read before your regurgitate. If it’s the latter seek mental help and self-esteem training.

  2. A tragic error, both boyfriends were sleeping with her and the first drug dealer was using her apartment to deal deadly drugs with her purest consent, named on the search warrant, and the second boyfriend in bed with her had a transported gun with him, awakened and shot at police—a horrible shame she allowed that type of behavior to happen—When people play with fire, someone gets burned. LE has an extremely tough job to do, especially when surrounded by life threatening criminals!

    • “Her purest consent” where did you come up with these eloquent garbage? “Her purest consent” As Trump would say go worry about your own s$#ole country Ricky and tell Lucy we said Hi ! And “both” boyfriends were sleeping with her? What are you her gynecologist you weirdo? He didn’t transport a gun you liar “he legally owned the gun and feared for his life per the police”. Do you see him in jail? No you don’t. Why ? Because these were dirty cops lying on warrants and police reports. They let her BLEED out and they should be in jail for life. Yes LE is extremely tough, even tougher when bad cops get protection from ignorant know nothings and it makes it hard for good cops to point out the bad ones.

  3. Go back to the San Fernando Valley and peddle your gentrified BLM nonsense there.

  4. If these kids only knew the facts and evidence. They would understand. Why don’t facts and evidence matter any longer? You are being brainwashed with propaganda. Like the people of North Korea.

  5. And yet, individually I bet they all paid more taxes than that orange stain occupying the White House did.

  6. Breonna Taylor’s name was on the warrant as well. To the person quoted that it could be them, I guess that is true if you were to live with a drug dealer who shoots at police. And Alice, that is absurd to state that you would not get justice because of the color of your skin. A white person is twice as likely to be killed by a black person than the other way around. A black person is ten times more likely to be killed by a black person than by a white person. Do those black lives matter or is it just if they are killed by a white person which is almost a statistical zero. Learn the facts and stand up for all black lives, not just the ones that make the news.

    • Carla which protests are you at pertaining to those black people killed by black people? Oh, never- got it !
So, right off the bat you’re a liar, she wasn’t living with a drug dealer. The cops got shot because they battered in someones door at 12am and didn’t announce who they were (they claim they did but I guess they were to tired to repeat themselves?). They knew when this lady went to and from work, easily could have done this without confrontation. They cops lied on the warrant AND lied on the police report. They also never tried to check on Breonna. You’re presenting a false dichotomy, caring about Breonna Taylor doesn’t preclude anyone from also caring about those other people. It was a weaksauce effort on your part but I guess it is the best you got?

  7. How are the idiot Liberals and snowflakes so brainwashed that they think the police are actually hunting down and killing black people. If every criminal would just not commit crimes or comply when confronted everything will work out fine. Name one “innocent” person that complied with the cops and was ever hurt or killed. Don’t y’all realize it’s California and the jails aren’t even holding anyone and the liberal criminal loving DA’s aren’t filing charges anyways. So stop fighting, using weapons and y’all will be just fine. Better yet stop using systemic racism as an excuse to be lazy and be a criminal. Go get a job, act responsible and stop blaming others. BLM and Antifa is a scam!!

    • Wow Rojo, it is so 1951 in your head it must be scary. One innocent person= Tamir Rice, cop comes out of his car guns blazing and having fun shooting a little black kid playing cops and robbers. John Crawford III, holding a airgun in WalMart – never made a threatening gesture to anyone – dead as a door nail. Breonna Taylor sleeping at her house, cops could have served warrant as she was coming or going to work, but nope they had to play Rambo. Elijah McClain, simply walking home after getting some chips & drinks, begged for his life- killed him anyway. Then cops beat up violinists who held a vigil for them. Why? Because cops are ego maniacs and their training is designed for war fronts not neighborhoods. Seems like you and cops are the snowflakes, scared of anything, even if it doesn’t go “boo”. BLM is a scam says the idiot who supports cops who cost us MILLIONS in settlements every year.

      • Kris – you enjoy trolling our local news. Just like the many out of town rioters. In our community, we support law and order. We also encourage reviewing facts before blindly supporting a drug dealer. This girl made poor choices, those choices cost her life.

  8. Every time I hear of BLM it makes me sad be cuz it makes recall AGAIN the night my brother, David, was shot while he was sleeping in his car on the corner of Nordhoff and Parthenon St in San Fernando Valley 40 years ago.
He was only 27 years old and the youngest of 3 children.
Our father was an engineer with the Los Angeles Fire Department and his son’s unnecessary death destroyed him.
My brother, David Patrick Lally’s life mattered also. He was white and it was 40 years ago on June 17th and I wish I somehow could add his name to the list of police shootings.
The officer that fired the fatal shot to the back of my brother’s head committed suicide 10 years to the day he killed my brother so I’m thinking that he held guilt all those years for killing a 27 year old, “hippie”. I miss my brother everyday

  9. My last reply was blocked. Kris and Sandra stop drinking the left koolaid and stop getting your false facts from FB and fake news. As far as the names mentioned they were not innocent victims. Tamir Rice was playing with a gun in public which turned out to be fake but cmon where were the parents, John Crawford III refused to follow orders while what turned out to be a fake gun he was carrying (no common sense) Breonna Taylor was part of a drug ring and had a pos boyfriend who was shooting at the cops, Elijah McClain was uncooperative and reached into his pocket upon contact after cops received a suspicious person call. Hmmm there is a moral to these stories. First of all Sandra Nordhoff and Parthenia don’t even cross so that’s false info right there. Why was you brother “sleeping” in his car anyways near closed businesses. Was he a druggie and not allowed at home. He was probably uncooperative and/or reached for a weapon. I’m sure taking a human life was hard to live with that’s why the cop ended his. This is not about black vs white but good vs bad. #JustBeCooperative

  10. Jason, You claim to know more about Sandra’s brother’s shooting than her. And you are making assumptions.I can see how you are judgmental even about situations you know nothing about. You are an “upstanding citizen” with no compassion. Lovely.

  11. It’s not assuming it’s called common sense. Police aren’t hunting people like the left want you to believe. Some sort of confrontation and disobedience is occurring. Of course any life taken is a tragedy but come on. Play dumb games win dumb prizes. I even know about you Flo. No clue lib that watches the view yet lives in a bubble and can’t see past your nose. You are appalled and offended by everything.

  12. Not a lib, never watched The View.
