“This is about a seven to ten-year-old infestation, so we are going to kill them with orange oil and bora-care,” Cardon Ellis said. “Termites have a tendency to eat the wood from the inside out.”

Dry wood termites are common in Southern California that create smooth openings or galleries.

Cardon injects orange oil into the holes that the termites damaged. It will soak into the wood and kill termites. Then from the outside he sprays bora-care. To be on the safe side Cardon even sprays the attic to eliminate any possible infestations.

“Now whenever you find a termite infestation in a patio cover, oftentimes that is the tip of the iceberg, so we are going to go inside and make sure that there are no other termites or see if they are indeed other termites.” Cardon said.

The equipment needed for this is sixty fourths drill, proper gloves, eye protection, bora-care, and orange oil.

The beginning process of exterminating the termites are:

• Step 1-Drill a hole into the infected pieces of wood. You will feel the termites inside once you feel that slip.
• Step 2-Inject the gallery through the hole with orange oil and you will hear it.
• Step 3-It will soak slowly through the wood or capillary effect for four to six hours.
• Step 4-Do the same thing every eight to twelve inches.

You will see parts of the wood showing the orange oil being injected. This means you know where the colony of termites are located.

Carson takes the extra bora-care he has left and treats all the wood and joists just in case they missed any spreading.

“By the time we’re done spraying these pieces of wood you might as well have them made out of metal,” Carson said.
