Extremely Quirky Destinations For Santa Clarita Families: Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade

As Christmas approaches, Santa Clarita families looking for a unique holiday outing may want to consider the Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade.

In the 136th installment of the KHTS series highlighting unusual destinations, the spotlight turns to the 117th Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade and Ring of Lights, scheduled for December 17–21.

Beautifully decorated yachts, boats, kayaks and canoes will glide through Newport Harbor each night of the parade, hosted by the Commodores Club of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce.

Festivities begin Wednesday, December 17, at 6:15 p.m. with a special fireworks display off the Newport Pier, weather permitting. Drone shows will also illuminate the sky throughout the week, weather permitting.

The parade will follow its traditional route around Newport Harbor, starting and ending at the tip of Lido Isle. Boats will depart from the east end of Lido Island at approximately 6:30 p.m. each night.

The first public viewing area is Marina Park, a 10.5-acre community space offering 177 parking spots, a nautical-themed playground, picnic area and sailing center. It’s also the largest designated viewing location along the route.

Spectators can enjoy optimal views of the decorated vessels from various Dine & Watch waterfront restaurants or choose Dine & Walk options located within walking distance of many public viewing spots.
