The Children’s Bureau, a nonprofit organization for the prevention and of child abuse and neglect, is holding their monthly information meeting Saturday, June 24 from 10 a.m. to noon.
Nearly 64,000 children live in the California foster care system with 21,000 being in the Los Angeles County system alone. Of those, 500 children are looking to connect with a family, according to a Children’s Bureau press release.
“Children’s Bureau Resource Parents protect and nurture children, meet children’s developmental needs, support children’s relationships with their birth families and do all of this as a member of a professional team,” said the release. “Children’s Bureau welcomes every foster and foster-adoptive parent regardless of, race, age, religion, disability, marital status, ethnic background, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression.”
Qualifying families receive the training, assessment, approval and support needed to help with the foster-adoption child.
The Children’s Bureau is holding their June 24 meeting at the College of the Canyons, Dianne G. Van Hook University Center, Room 222.
