Family members say the fundraiser was created to help bring Lorenzana home and cover funeral expenses, with any remaining funds going toward easing future financial burdens for his daughter, Brody.

In a message shared by loved ones, Lorenzana was remembered as a devoted father, partner, son, brother and friend whose life revolved around family and caring for others.

“Manny is a hero and the epitome of what an amazing man, father, partner and friend should be,” the family wrote. “He was the most thoughtful, loving and supportive man to his soulmate April, and the most caring, involved, fun, kind and loving parent, and best friend, to his daughter Brody.”

Loved ones also described Lorenzana as a family man at heart, a devoted son to his mother, and a loving brother to his siblings.

“His love, support, generosity and kindness has been felt by everyone whose lives he entered,” the family’s statement continued.

The crash occurred as the team was traveling to Colorado to compete in a weekend tournament with the World Girls Hockey League.

A preliminary investigation by the Colorado State Patrol indicates a Colorado Department of Transportation snowplow lost control in snowy conditions, crossed the median and struck several vehicles, including the Sprinter van.

Nine other people were inside the van at the time of the crash.

One child was airlifted to a hospital with critical injuries, while several other children and adults were transported to hospitals for treatment.
