Law enforcement officials are conducting shooting practice at Pitchess Detention Center in Castaic, echoes of which are being heard over the hill near Valencia High School.

Around 9:50 a.m. Wednesday, deputies responded to Valencia High School on Dickason Drive after gunshots were reportedly heard, according to Sheriff’s officials.

However, it was determined the gunshots heard were echoes from shooting practice at Pitchess Detention Center on the other side of a ridgeline, according to Sgt. Bentson with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Valencia High School was never placed on lockdown and all classes remain in session, according to Hart District Superintendent Mike Kuhlman.
