As the spring season arrives, the nonprofit Help the Children once again is undertaking its mission in raising money to send boxed and canned food to families in need.

For the past 20 years, Help the Children has helped impoverished children and their families around the world. Now, the organization is looking to raise funds to supply 5,000 families with food.
“We’re involved with a lot of different charities at this time of the year,” said Bradley Grose, CEO of Help the Children. “There are a lot challenges with that.”
Help the Children has held food box drives in the past, but this is the first year where the organization is primarily raising funds instead of asking people to assemble and donate the boxes themselves, Grose stated.

The Spring Food Box Drive was created in order to help supply the charities without the labor intensive efforts required for donors to assemble their own baskets, Grose stated.
Each box contains a week’s supply of food for a family of four, according to officials from Help the Children. It costs $50 to put together one box, meaning that it would cost $250,000 for Help the Children to assemble their goal of 5,000 food boxes.
The charities that are expected to receive the food boxes include the Crisis Pregnancy Center, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Homes For Heroes.
The boxes are also set to go to victims of recent fires and mudslides in California, as well as churches in the greater Los Angeles area, according to officials.
Help the Children is a nonprofit Christian humanitarian relief organization dedicated to increasing self sufficiency of children and their families by providing food, clothing, personal care items and medical supplies without regard to political affiliation, religious belief or ethnic identity, according to their website.
The drive is set to run until the end of May. Residents can donate by visiting Help the Children’s website here, and mark their donations as meant for the Spring Food Box Drive.
