L.A. County Raises Minimum Wage, Affecting Unincorporated SCV

Los Angeles County is set to raise its minimum wage, affecting the unincorporated areas of the Santa Clarita Valley starting Friday.

Angelenos’ wallets are set to see an increase in the minimum wage from the previous $15 per hour to $15.96 dollars per hour, according to L.A. County officials

The rate of increase has been rising steadily since 2016, ever since the county adopted a minimum wage ordinance which set the line straight for yearly wage increases of 6.4 percent.

The city of Santa Clarita is not to be affected by the new laws, however, the unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County, including Castaic, Stevenson Ranch, and Val Verde are to be affected by the new minimum wage increase.

Hotels with 150 employees or more are set to require an even higher minimum wage of $18.17 per hour and all full-time covered employees are to receive 96 compensated hours of sick leave, vacation, and personal necessities, according to County officials.

Los Angeles County employers must also grant 48 hours of paid sick leave at the beginning of each year or a 12-month period that exceeds California’s requisite hours

Future hikes in the minimum wage are predetermined and based on increases in the Bureau of Labor Statistics Consumer Price Index.

  1. We expect better service from all those that got an increase . We didn’t see it when they raised it last time . Service was still the same poor quailty.

  2. 6.4% per year??? That’s nuts!!

  3. And they must raise prices by 10% to cover the additional cost and taxes. Is everyone starting to understand that this is not a free lunch? Everybody’s costs go up even more including those getting the raise. This feeds into inflation and only puts them further behind. It does not solve the problem yet sounds good on the surface.

  4. More jobs will be lost to self service checkouts.

Go to Home Depot or Lowes and all the normal checkouts are now closed.

1 employee sits on a chair to watch 4 self service checkouts.

Raise minimum wage then lose 3/4 jobs. How does that make things better?

  5. Great, raise the minimum wage as another Federal gas tax increased on 7/1 during horrible Xiden’s inflation thanks to the Moronic Liberal’s voting patterns!
