“Today is the chili cook-off with the Los Angeles Sheriff Department who puts it on for us and it’s been an annual event,” Laura Mayo, Chief Growth Officer, Vice President Specialist Olympics Southern California.

Guests were able to purchase a Chili Card, and with that card they were able to taste the chili from many booths and vote for their favourite.

The event featured a car show, live music, kids zone, Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department (LASD) displays, crafters and so much more.

All proceeds from the Chili Cook-Off are set to benefit Special Olympics athletes in northern Los Angeles county.

Other stations that were there were the Santa Clarita Station, Lancaster Station, North Facility, South Facility, Justice Partners and so much more.

“It’s a way for us to give back to our community and our special olympic partners and it’s a way for us to gather because the department is so big and there is little healthy competition between all of us,” said Paula Tokar, Assistant Sheriff.

About Carl Goldman

Carl Goldman, along with his wife, Jeri repurchased KHTS AM-1220, Santa Clarita’s hometown station on October 24, 2003. They owned it from 1990-1998, and then sold it to Clear Channel Communication in 1998, buying it back from Clear Channel in 2003. Since then, they have rebuilt KHTS as a critical voice of the Valley. In 2015 the radio station moved to its new headquarters on Main Street in Old Town Newhall, in the original Newhall Hardware building. In 2018 an FM was added, 98.1, with its signal being simulcast with AM-1220. In January 2020, Carl and Jeri cruised on the Diamond Princess. Carl was one of the first Americans to come down with Covid-19. Months earlier he was impacted by Guillain Barre Syndrome as a result of a Shingles vaccine in September 2019. He is still in recovery from the vaccine.
