A live fire training exercise was held in Newhall Sunday morning by the Los Angeles Fire Department.

On Sunday, April 22, the Los Angeles County Fire Department held a live fire training exercise at 24753 Valley Street in Newhall.

The City of Santa Clarita and the Los Angeles County Fire Department worked cooperatively to provide this valuable fire training opportunity for fire service personnel. Over 50 local firefighters received training on how to work safely in and on top of a burning building.

The live fire training produced visible smoke from time to time while fire department units were on scene. No adverse weather conditions affected the exercise, and the smoke produced is rose sufficiently and dissipated in an easterly direction.

Members of the public who were in the area and wished to watch this live fire training were asked to follow the directions of firefighters on scene to ensure that they maintained a safe distance.

The training burn was done in accordance with all applicable sections of Rule 444 of the Southern California Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD).
