Local Nonprofit Finally Family Homes Receives Grant To Help Homeless Youth Find Temporary Housing

Finally Family Homes has received its first grant to grow its program to help young adults who have aged out of foster care in Santa Clarita.

Finally Family Homes was recently awarded a grant of $96,152 from the Youth & Young Adult Pooled Fund in order to boost its efforts to prevent homelessness among disadvantaged, college-aged youth in our community, according to officials.

“We are honored to have been awarded this grant, which involved youth who have experienced homelessness in the decision-making process,” said Executive DirectorChristina Dronen. “We are excited to be able to offer more local youth a safe and caring place in our community as a bridge from their challenges to long-term success.”

The grant is set to expand the nonprofit’s Host Homes Program, an innovative and successful intervention for youth homelessness, according to Finally Family Homes officials.

The nonprofit incorporates a transitional housing model to serve college-age youth who leave foster care without a family and need extra support as they grow into contributing and successful members of the adult community, officials said.

The program matches and supports Santa Clarita residents with local young adults aging out of the foster care system and find themselves without housing or support.

The youth live in a private host home with an available bedroom and a safe and supportive atmosphere for young adults to work on their next steps for up to six months.

Due to the program’s growth, Finally Family Homes has created two staff positions – the Host Homes Program Manager and the Host Homes Case Manager.

The role of the Host Homes Program Manager is set to recruit ten additional local host families, offer training, provide weekly check-ins and facilitate community support groups for program participants.

The Host Homes case manager provides services for at least six local youth, including weekly check-ins and case management making sure that the youth are working towards their goals.
