Ninth Grade SCV Student Invited To The 2023 Climate Change Conference

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) government has invited a ninth grader from Santa Clarita to attend the Climate Change Conferences 28 (or COP)  in Dubai as their special guest.

Germany, Japan, Switzerland, Morocco, India, Mexico, Italy, and Egypt—sites of the 27th COP have all welcomed hundreds of world leaders in business and politics, as well as scientists, presidents, prime ministers, and other influential figures for the annual conference in the past.

This year, 13-year-old Ismachiah Oduwole is set to be among them all.

Oduwole came up with an idea for a World Cup Climate and Sustainability soccer ball in Nov. of 2022 while he was in Qatar for the FIFA World Cup, which is why the UAE is proud to have him.

On behalf of their nations, world leaders like Irfaan Ali, president of Guyana, Wavel Ramkalawan, president of the Seychelles, Sitiveni Rabuka and prime minister of Fiji, have signed the climate and sustainability ball that the 9th graders created.

In addition, the CEOs of Marriott International, Hawaii Airlines, FedEx, LOGIX Bank, Carnival Cruise Line, MGM Resorts and Ethiopian Airlines, Mr. Mesfin Tasew Bekele just signed the ball in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, declaring his organization’s specific commitment to ensuring a safer planet.

In his special way, Oduwole is raising awareness about environmental issues, particularly climate change, among people of all ages.

His story encourages young people to take risks and try new things while still young.

Since its establishment in 1995 in Berlin, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change has embraced the responsibility of conducting research, spreading awareness and advising governments on how to mitigate climate change’s impacts, which is mainly caused by pollution-induced greenhouse gas emissions.

  1. Gee just how will he get there ? Hmmm FlY

  2. You say, “Oduwole came up with an idea for a World Cup Climate and Sustainability soccer ball in Nov. of 2022…” Do tell. What was his idea?

You also write, “His story encourages young people to take risks and try new things…” How so? What’s his story? Did he take a risk and try something new? What was it he risked? What new thing did he try? And while you’re at it, how are soccer balls complicit in climate change? And how did Oduwole address that?

A simple phone call to Ismachiah Oduwole (or his parents) for comment is journalism 101. Don’t print the story until you actually have the story. It would be really interesting to know what this is all about.
