Family-owned fashion outlet ProCounty opened its doors at the Valencia Town Center on Saturday.
The outlet sells an array of items, including makeup, art, and clothing brands popular in L.A. and Chicano fashion, such as Dickies and ProClub.
Dickies transformed into a fashion staple much the same way as its cousin, the Timberland boot. Both were designed for blue-collar work, and found cross-genre interest with a whole new demographic as workers already wise to the quality of affordable workwear products transitioned items to everyday wear, and trends followed suit.
ProClub experienced a similar transition. Originally founded by Korean immigrant Young Geun Lee, the affordable and accessible ProClub exploded in popularity in the 1990s and early 2000s in connection with urban fashion and the gangsta rap scene. The oversized t-shirts seen on rap icons like Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G. was a reflection of the street fashions of the day, which ProClub supplied largely by word-of-mouth.
ProCounty is open seven days a week, and follows Valencia Town Center hours.
