The Santa Clarita Athletic Club is facing scrutiny again, with new comments coming out from some users who have claimed they are continuing to be charged by the establishment and are allegedly not being communicated with by management.
New complaints have emerged alleging that the Santa Clarita Athletic Club, having already faced outcry for its response to COVID-19 cancellations, is now facing new complaints about the same issue despite others continuing to support the establishment.
“It’s very frustrating,” said Nancy Vargas, a Santa Clarita resident who claims to have never received a refund or any recent responses from the Club despite continued efforts to do so. “I do not think that this issue has been handled professionally.”
Another member who reached out to KHTS claims never to have received payment cancellation information from Club management, in addition to claiming added fees were charged during the COVID-19 closure, despite not using the Club’s services and attempting to receive a refund.
In addition, several recent posts on the Better Business Bureau allege similar complaints, including several who have claimed that they have not been able to get in contact with the Athletic Club.
Several of these recent complaints allege that a collection agency has been contacting them regarding payments despite attempts to cancel.

According to a statement in June of 2020 by the General Manager of the Athletic Club, members were sent an email when the gym was forced to close to inform them that all information about freezing or canceling an account was available on their website.
Some members that did not utilize the online service were among those that claim they continued to be charged, including several who have reached out to KHTS in recent weeks.
While some wanted to pause or cancel their membership during these uncertain times, other members have instead rallied around the local establishment.
Many members in support of the Athletic Club insisted on leaving their accounts active during the closure to help the business stay afloat.
One longtime patron of the gym who has typically paid his dues in cash even came by to drop off nearly $300 as a show of support for the Club.
Despite the support, those who have commented negatively about the Athletic Club’s actions toward their alleged membership cancellations may continue to speak out.
It is unclear whether or not those who have spoken against the Santa Clarita Athletic Club will continue in the future to take issue with the Club’s response to their comments against the establishment.
The Athletic Club did not respond to KHTS’s request for comment regarding recent complaints as of Wednesday..

Wow a Berkeley grad can’t even figure out basic punctuation? The quality of work I see here just keeps going down.
The athletic club and mainly Dina has been scamming people for years. She’s rude to members and generally not very nice. She was at that club near Town Center before this and same deal. She has a horrible reputation all around town. Surprised she still shows her face in public.
The club itself has been around forever and many of us like the facility just not Dina and the ownership. One of the only good things about club management is Jeff. Everyone loves Jeff. Unfortunately he doesn’t control the financial part of the club that’s Dina and the ownership. They use a 3rd party billing company, so of course they always use that as their scapegoat. They always blame the billing company – classic shady gym technique.
Horrible owners, I lost my job and they still wanted to charge and thank goodness I gave them a wrong social, my friend they filed a judgment against. They would had if I gave them my correct social.
I paid for two years and sent a letter after paying 5 months and no job. Dena is a horrible person. Bad bad business person.
I agree, Dena is extremely unprofessional. My family is all about supporting family owned businesses around town but I just cannot support this business. I do feel that Dena is the problem and if she were to be replaced they may be able to repair their reputation. She is a big reason so many of us leave. My husband and I were members there and I have been charged for things I never asked for. We did cancel our membership and somehow my husband was still charged. When we asked for a refund they said the owner is not allowing refunds at this time. There are so many more stories regarding fees and wrongful charges that my husband and I experienced. Then all of our interactions with Dena just pushed us over the edge. She is not right for any customer facing roles.
I used to have a membership to the Athletic Club pre covid. Unfortunately circumstances changed and I had to move. I had forgotten to cancel my membership (my fault) but I was happy to pay the final month when I contacted them. It was a nightmare trying to cancel my membership remotely. I believe I had to physically come in to cancel my membership 3 months later. I felt so used, I will never go back there. Unfortunate, because I used to really like that place. Wish I would have gone to the BBB
