Santa Clarita Author Shares Children’s Book For Veterans Day

Local Santa Clarita author whose book was endorsed by the military, has written a book about all 50 states for Veterans Day.

A Santa Clarita local, Carole Cliffe spent a year during the pandemic writing ‘Shaping Up A Rhyme One State At A Time’ filled with rhymes about all 50 states, highlighting landmarks and interesting places to visit within those states.

“My books are also in the children’s library at Edwards Air Force Base, because military families are always moving and one Marine told me it helped prepare his kids when they moved and that he really appreciated the book,” Cliffe said.

Some of Cliffe’s other work includes “Raps, Riddles and Rhymes for All the Time,” this book teaches personal safety, and positive character traits, and stresses that manners matter and so does patriotism.

Another book from Cliffe is “Shaping Up Your Character, A to Z-Mathematically” this book integrates geometric shapes, eye-catching illustrations, and clever interactive activities to inspire kids to shape their character—one letter at a time.

Cliffe graduated from California State University Northridge with a teaching credential and a degree in psychology.

For over 30 years, Cliffe has worked in the Sulphur Springs School District in Los Angeles County schools as a teacher, mentor, BTSA trainer, language development specialist, and character consultant.

Cliffe wrote and implemented T.R.A.I.N., the program that integrates character education and the language arts state standards.

In addition, she has served as a professor at the Master’s College, training student teachers.

As an educator and mother, the author wrote a curriculum on strategies to integrate character values in her two books, “Building Character in the King’s Kids,” and “Character Quilting.”

Cliffe’s international credits include curriculum for the Ministry of Education for Albanians.

The local author’s articles in educational magazines and newspapers have been an inspiration to her colleagues.

Cliffe is also a member of the Santa Clarita Children’s authors.

About Carl Goldman

Carl Goldman, along with his wife, Jeri repurchased KHTS AM-1220, Santa Clarita’s hometown station on October 24, 2003. They owned it from 1990-1998, and then sold it to Clear Channel Communication in 1998, buying it back from Clear Channel in 2003. Since then, they have rebuilt KHTS as a critical voice of the Valley. In 2015 the radio station moved to its new headquarters on Main Street in Old Town Newhall, in the original Newhall Hardware building. In 2018 an FM was added, 98.1, with its signal being simulcast with AM-1220. In January 2020, Carl and Jeri cruised on the Diamond Princess. Carl was one of the first Americans to come down with Covid-19. Months earlier he was impacted by Guillain Barre Syndrome as a result of a Shingles vaccine in September 2019. He is still in recovery from the vaccine.
