After the shopping craze of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, “Giving Tuesday” has come to remind Santa Clarita residents about giving back to their community.

Since its founding in 2012 by the 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation, Giving Tuesday is an opportunity to kick off the giving season by donating to charities.
Residents of Santa Clarita have no shortage of local nonprofit organizations to donate to this Giving Tuesday, with a variety of charity causes to choose from.
The SCV Pregnancy Center is dedicated to providing relevant medical services in a caring and professional atmosphere to those facing unplanned pregnancy and sexual health decisions. Staff is committed to service, education and quality care, while serving the needs of the community.
The SCV Pregnancy Center ran a Giving Tuesday charity drive last year to fund its new building, and is currently accepting monetary donations, according to a spokesperson.
The Santa Clarita Coalition, founded by KHTS Owners Carl Goldman and Jeri Seratti-Goldman, serves as a conduit to connect various Santa Clarita nonprofits using drum and music therapy to assist at-risk populations. Their mission is to advance the use of music and rhythm as a life enhancement activity whenever and wherever it is needed.
The Santa Clarita Disaster Coalition, a subset of the previous organization, is an all-volunteer alliance dedicated to providing supplemental humanitarian relief for local disasters.
“We like to refer to ourselves as ‘second responders,’” said Board Member Carl Goldman. “We fill in the void left by first responders.”
Founded in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2004, the Santa Clarita Disaster Coalition aims to help people rebuild their lives after suffering loss due to a natural disaster, community-wide emergency or other crisis situation in the Santa Clarita Valley, and when appropriate, elsewhere in California and the United States.
Helping Our Children provides food and supplies for several faith-based organizations in Santa Clarita, and is the only provider in the Santa Clarita Valley of perishable groceries to people in need.
As the sole provider of fresh groceries to organizations and individuals in need throughout Santa Clarita, Helping Our Children accepts a variety of donations, according to Bradley Grose, “chief encouragement officer.”
“We would greatly value any contributions, whether that be volunteering or doing food drives or donating online,” said Grose. “That would be a tremendous help for us to continue doing what we do.”
The Child & Family Center is dedicated to helping children, families and adults reach their full potential by becoming caring and responsible adults. It is a provider of comprehensive prevention, early intervention, diagnostic evaluation and therapeutic services for children, teens, adults and families who live in the Santa Clarita Valley.
Carousel Ranch is dedicated to improving the lives of children and young adults with special needs. Through both equestrian therapy and vocational training programs, the organization strives to create an atmosphere where every student can and will succeed. Staff have mentioned that it is a place where therapy is “disguised as fun.”
The Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley is committed to supporting academic success, providing a second home and building leaders. Over 1,600 local children and teens call the club their home. The Santa Clarita club is one of over 4,000 Boys & Girls Clubs nationwide.
The SCV Senior Center’s mission is to promote quality of life for seniors, and the organization is currently in the process of building a new facility off of Golden Valley Road.
The Providence Holy Cross Foundation enables the medical center to keep pace with advances in lifesaving technology while responding to the unique needs of Santa Clarita and surrounding communities. The foundation helps fund advanced medical technology and state-of-the-art facilities.
The College of the Canyons Foundation helps fill gaps in state funding, provide financial resources to students and educators, and work to ensure that all those who seek higher education have the resources to do so.
Assistance League Santa Clarita is a volunteer organization that develops and implements programs to make a difference in the lives of families in the Santa Clarita community
Samuel Dixon Family Health Center has a mission to enhance wellness by providing quality outpatient health care services and programs, health education, community resources and referrals.
The Michael Hoefflin Foundation is a nonprofit organization that assists children diagnosed with cancer and their families. For over 20 years, the foundation has provided individualized, caring support that addresses the various ways in which life is disrupted for families facing a pediatric cancer diagnosis. The aim of the Michael Hoefflin Foundation is to ensure families have what they need so that their child can concentrate on getting well.
Circle of Hope’s mission is to provide emotional, educational and financial assistance, along with supportive wellness therapies, to the Santa Clarita Valley cancer community in Northern Los Angeles County of California.
